BREATHWORK

BREATHWORK CLASSES AT DRIFTWOOD

Welcome to a space where your breath is the bridge back to yourself.

What is breathwork?

Breathwork is an intentional, guided practice that uses the power of your own inhalation and exhalation to quiet the mind and listen to the body. Whether you are seeking a moment of deep relaxation or a path toward greater emotional clarity, this practice offers a safe and supportive environment to explore your inner landscape. Here, you are always in control and the breath is a gentle tool to help you breathe deeply and live calmly.

What to Expect in a Session

  1. A Safe and Guided Container — Every session begins with a grounding arrival and a clear explanation of the technique. We will discuss the flow of the session, review safety protocols and set a personal intention. You will always be encouraged to listen to your body first and foremost.

  2. The Breathing Technique — We will primarily use a method called Conscious Connected Breathwork. This involves a deep, full inhale into the belly and chest, followed by a completely soft, relaxed exhale, with no pauses between the breaths. This rhythmic pattern helps bypass the analytical mind and allows you to connect more deeply with your internal state.

  3. Physical and Sensorial Shifts — As the breath changes your internal chemistry, it is common to feel various physical sensations. You might experience tingling in the hands or face, changes in body temperature, or a sense of energy moving through you. These are normal physiological responses to the shift in carbon dioxide levels and are part of the body's natural process of releasing tension.

  4. Emotional and Mental Exploration — Breathwork can be a powerful tool for emotional processing. You may experience feelings of deep peace, clarity, joy or you may find that suppressed emotions like sadness or frustration come to the surface to be felt and released. There is no "right" way to feel; every journey is unique.

  5. Full Agency and Control — The most important thing to know is that you are always the one in the driver's seat. The breath is an invitation, not a command. You can soften the intensity, slow the rhythm or return to your natural resting breath at any time. Your nervous system’s safety always comes before the depth of the technique.

  6. Integration and Landing — We never end a session abruptly. We always allow ample time for the breath to return to its natural rhythm and for your system to settle. This integration phase is essential for grounding the experience and ensuring you feel steady, clear, and regulated before you leave.

Preparing for Your Session

To make your experience as comfortable as possible, I recommend the following:

  • Clothing — Wear loose, comfortable clothes that don't restrict your waist or chest.

  • Eating — Try to avoid eating a heavy meal at least 1.5 to 2 hours before the session.

  • What to bring — We provide mats, a blanket and a bolster but you might like to bring a small pillow and a favourite blanket for maximum comfort.

Important Note on Safety: Breathwork is a powerful tool but it is not suitable for everyone. Please review the Contraindications before booking to ensure this practice is safe for you at this time. If you have any specific health concerns, I encourage you to consult with a medical professional before booking.

Curious about breathwork but never tried it?

This is a detailed introduction for anyone who’s wondered what breathwork actually feels like. Breathwork is a guided, active experience that uses your breath to help shift your physical, mental and emotional state.

It’s different to meditation as you don’t need a quiet mind. If you do have a busy brain and a busy life, beathwork can be surprisingly accessible.
